Treat Yourself-At home
I mean who doesn’t love a treat from Starbucks or CopperMoon if you’re local. Me. I do. I get it. Even our delivery runner son begs me to take him to Starbucks while we’re out delivering coffee. The irony is not lost on me, which is why I say no.
But I will say that since we’ve started roasting coffee, it’s so good that I find myself going out for a treat less and less. And that has been amazing for our budget.
I came across some ideas for putting some pizazz in your coffee at home.
Interestingly enough the first thing mentioned is to buy quality beans and grind your own coffee. If you are resistant to grinding your own coffee, I understand, it’s an extra step, it’s added mess, it’s another thing on your counter, but it DRAMATICALLY improves the flavor of your coffee. It really does.
IF you like cream or milk in your coffee, warm it up on the stove first. I’m not saying you have to do this every morning, but this is your treat coffee. If you have a french press, use it to froth your milk. Brings that coffee shop experience to your living room, where you can drink in your pajamas.
Add some spices… cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, whatever floats your boat. This article talks about adding saffron and ginger.
Alright, now we are going to get really crazy. They also suggest adding citrus peel, especially in iced coffee, Or sweet condensed milk, or butter! Who’s going to try and report back.
Finally, the best part about making a coffee treat at home is you can add alcohol! Baileys, Kahlua, rum, whatever you’ve got in the cabinet. Next time, you’re tempted to make a Starbucks run look around in your fridge first and see if maybe you don’t have the ingredients to treat yourself without spending any more money. Remember great coffee starts with great beans.
