Coffee Grinders
I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret. We roast coffee, we have opinions and preferences about coffee but we try to keep our coffee snobbery at bay. If you are happy with the way you drink your coffee, keep drinking it that way. But if you are curious and looking to understand more about coffee and coffee grinders, read on.

I grew up with what is likely the most recognizable of all coffee grinders in my house (Actually full disclosure, for a long period of time my parents drank freeze-dried instant coffee… blech). The small cylinder with the clear plastic lid, small food processor blade where the coffee swirled around. A coffee/spice grinder much like this one….
In fact many people we love and regularly drink coffee with use these grinders and their coffee tastes just fine.
We use a burr grinder. If you watch the video below, you will discover all sorts of coffee-type reasons why burr grinders produce a more consistent, even pot of coffee, than other grinders. But I will tell you some practical reasons why I prefer our burr grinder over the spice grinder.
First of all, it actually holds enough beans in the hopper for a full pot of coffee. Second of all, I don’t have to stand over it while it’s grinding. Mornings are hectic, and I like being able to dump the beans turn it on and move on to other important morning activities. Like finding all the shoes! I can tell the burr grinder how finely I want the coffee ground and I don’t have to guess when they are done.
Finally, Those lid loading grinders drive me crazy! They are messy, and I always spill the grounds. Our burr grinder has an easy pull out I can pour much more cleanly.
We have the Bartza Encore Coffee grinder, and our only complaint is it doesn’t have an automatic shut off. Once again, you can check out the video for more information.
