We have hacked the universe! Raise your hand if you HATE the static of coffee beans coming out of the grinder. The electrified grit that flings itself all over your counter. Raise your hand if you hate it so much that you only buy preground beans, sacrificing good flavor for your sanity. Now you can have both.
Every once in a while you come across a tip that changes your life. And this one is it. I am not exaggerating. I HATE grinding coffee. The gritty mess that ends up all over your counter and hands drives me crazy. But because we are coffee people I just resigned myself to the dust. I searched out all kinds of tips and tricks to cut down on the static. And up to now the best option was simply waiting for the static to discharge before I dumped the grounds into the filter.
But a few months ago we came across this trick and it was LIFE CHANGING!!! I apologize for all the CAPS but I feel very strongly about this. In the video below they demonstrate using a wet spoon handle to stir your beans before you grind them. This keeps static electricity from building up when you grind your beans. But for the last several months we have kept a small spray bottle of water near our grinder. Before we dump in the beans we very lightly give them a mist. The difference in what comes out of the grinder is night and day. NIGHT and DAY people!! Game changer. If you have messy ground coffee on your counter give this a try.
If this information makes you want to consider buying whole bean coffee again, we have whole bunch you can try.
