I’ll be the first to admit it: I love online shopping. It’s open 24/7, there are no crowds, I don't have to drive anywhere, and I can do the whole thing in my pajamas. But there is value in local business that an algorithm just can't replace.
Take A1 Packaging in West Lafayette. They are my go-to for shipping and Amazon returns because they’re fast, efficient, and usually have zero wait. But their real value didn't click until I had a total "brain short circuit."
In a moment of pure genius, I managed to put an empty box inside another empty box, taped the return label on top, and dropped it off at A1. I didn't realize what I’d done until hours later when I walked into my kitchen and saw the actual item I was supposed to return sitting neatly next to the pantry.
Cue the panic.
Trying to explain to a global conglomerate like Amazon that I had shipped them a box of literal air would have been a customer service nightmare. But I called A1. A real live person answered. Actually it was even better, I left a message, and then a real live person called me back. They found my "ghost package," set it aside, and let me come back to actually put the product in the box. They saved me from my own idiocy.
That is the "Local" difference.
